New Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course
9-Week Course Begins Wednesday September 5th 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.
First Class is a Free Orientation Open For Anyone To Attend
Increase your ability to cope with stressful situations, improve
self-esteem, feel more alive, calmer and renew your enthusiasm for life
and work.
The course is designed to teach mind and body awareness techniques that
allow for living with more ease in dealing with daily stress, anxieties,
physical ailments and emotional symptoms due to anxiety, unresolved
trauma and/or illness. The program is based on the methods of Jon
Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D who was featured on the Bill Moyers’ special, “Healing
And The Mind.”
Course Content: Through lectures, exercises and group
discussions participants learn about habituated reactions to stress
related anxieties and how to change their response.
"Mindfulness teaches us how to approach life and stress related anxieties skillfully."
Areas of difficulty we may notice:
Depression, Irritability, Worry/Grief , Panic, Chronic Pain, Stress,
Frustration, Burn-out, Anxiousness, Headaches/Migraines, Fatigue, High
Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Psoriasis, Job and/or Family Stress,
Fibromyalgia, Sleep Disturbances, Inability to deal with Illness and
other Stressors.
Participants of the program report:
*Increased ability to cope with stressful situations and less anxious.
*Coping better with illness, chronic pain and decrease in physical and emotional/psychological symptoms.
*Improved self-esteem…more positive outlook and enthusiasm for life.
Course Fee: $295.00 + 55.00 for class materials. Includes workbook, two CD’s and copy of “Full Catastrophe Living” by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
*Full and partial Scholarships are available for approved applicants.
Class Schedule: 9-Wednesdays Beginning May 9th to July 11th 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Daylong Session: Sunday, October 21st 9:45 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Facilitator:
Rik Center is Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Mindfulness Care
Center. He’s a Somatic Experiencing Stress and Trauma
Counselor/Practitioner, Mindfulness Stress Reduction & Meditation
Teacher plus he serves as a Buddhist/Interfaith Chaplain at San
Francisco General Hospital. His private practice focuses on healing high
levels of stress, unresolved traumatic anxiety and PTSD along with
offering grief and spiritual counseling sessions. Rik is part of Spirit
Rock’s Dedicated Practitioner’s Program and leads a weekly Tuesday
evening meditation at the MCC.
