Mindfulness & Recovery: Working with Meditation, Recovery & Addiction
Fridays evenings beginning September 8th through December 1st 7:00pm - 8:30pm.
You may attend all the evenings or attend as you are able.

This workshop incorporates mindfulness practices in working with aspects of recovery & addiction that encourages participants to practice their recovery with greater mindfulness.
Each week there will be a meditation, a speaker sharing their experience, strength and hope, and a time for group sharing. Each speaker will discuss the gifts of sobriety for them, sometimes called "The Promises".
You do not need to have a meditation background to participate in this workshop. Beginners and longterm practitioners are welcome.
Group facilitator Carole P. is a long time meditation practitioner who has brought 12 step and other various practices into healing her addictions.
The group is offered on a dana/donation basis. We are supported by the practice of shared generosity. No one turned away due to lack of funds. Our programs are for everyone to gain new insights into life, themselves and inner healing.
Study on the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation with addiction: Beyond its use in reducing depressive acuity, research additionally supports the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation upon reducing cravings for substances that people are addicted to. Addiction is known to involve the weakening of the prefrontal cortex that ordinarily allows for delaying of immediate gratification for longer term benefits by the limbic and paralimbic brain regions. Neuroimaging of those who practice mindfulness meditation has been shown to increase activity in the prefrontal cortex, a sign of greater self-control.
